Treatment for Snoring & Sleep Apnea

An ENT specialist can determine the cause of the snoring, after which medical treatment is possible. The nasal obstruction might for instance be caused by an allergy or polyps. An allergy can be treated with medication, which is often sufficient to be relieved from snoring.

In not so heavy snorers, an operation of the nasal septum or the removal of polyps may bring relief. In children, snoring can be ended by removing the palatal tonsils and/or adenoid.

Treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, however, depends on the gravity of the abnormality found. The seriousness of the sleep apnea is determined by a sleep registration. This registration is done during the natural sleep at night. A lung specialist can perform this sleep registration at the request of an ENT specialist or other specialist. Depending on the outcome, one of the therapies below can be started.
